The Firm
An institution, built like the companies it serves.
Founded in San Diego. Focused on the government contracting middle market. Aligned with the owners who build it.
Why We Exist
A company in this market can be advised by people who have never touched a government contract, or bought by people who see only the contract and not the company. Owners deserved a third option.
Sunset Coast was built around a simple observation: the firms that keep the mission running are founder-held, middle-market, and chronically underserved. Too small for the bulge bracket. Too specialized for generalist advisors. Too important to be left to either.
So we built the institution we believed should exist. One firm that can advise the company, run the transaction, steward the proceeds, and, when the fit is right, become the buyer itself. Each practice sharpens the others. All of them answer to the same four words.
Principles
Four words we are held to.
Direct
We lead with specifics and state conclusions clearly. If the number is disappointing, you will hear it first and plainly, with the reasons attached. Precision is a form of respect.
Advisory
We are a sounding board with a point of view, not a sales process with a deck. We put options on the table, tell you which one we would take, and respect whichever you choose.
Human
Every company we touch has a person behind it with goals, a family, and a finite amount of energy. The right answer for the business is only right if it works for the owner.
Numbers-forward
We quantify everything we can. A range with drivers behind it beats an adjective every time. The math never replaces the narrative, but it always leads it.
Leadership
Jed Morris
Founder
Jed founded Sunset Coast after a decade on active duty in the United States Air Force, where he worked in finance and defense acquisition: the buying side of the table every government contractor sells to. He holds an MBA from NYU Stern.
That vantage point shapes the firm. Sunset Coast reads a contractor the way the customer does, values it the way a buyer does, and advises it the way an owner deserves.
